“Please run now to meet her, and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’ ” And she answered, “It is well.” ~ II Kings 4:26
REFERENCE:
You often hear people mouth the phrase, “It is well”, just in about any situation they find themselves. I was one of those who concluded that the phrase had become a cliché and would not often want to ‘parrot’ it until I was praying recently, and it bubbled forth in my spirit.
The woman in our text had her son late in life, and death came to claim him. She received him by a prophetic promise, and now the child was dead. The death of the boy spelled the failure of God and His prophet, His inability to keep what He gave, a lonely future, and a dashing of her expectation. The woman decided to take the child back to the prophet that prophesied his birth to ‘fix’ his prophecy. A tenacious woman who defied all the odds to receive the boy back to life: it was on a day that there was neither church service nor counseling sessions. The notable thing about this woman was her disposition toward everything: She kept saying, “IT IS WELL!”
When her husband objected, she said, “It is well.” When Elisha inquired about her, her husband, and her son, she said, “It is well.” Elisha must have been affected by her attitude and response when he eventually found out what she was dealing with. From her story, the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see that “It is well” is not just a cliché. It is a declaration of faith! It is prophetic, medicine to a troubled soul, and a decider of how things will end. It expresses absolute trust in God and His power in the face of contrary situations.
The word, ‘well’ in Hebrew is ‘Shalom.’ It means completeness, soundness, welfare, peace, safety, health, prosperity, quiet, and wholeness. So, when this woman looked at her dead son and said, “It is well,” she was saying, “Everything is still intact and we are at peace; we are safe and healthy, and we are complete and whole.” Can you imagine that? She spoke God’s ‘wellness’ over her situation and it turned in her favor; she had her child raised back to life.
When you say, “It is well,” you are prophetically saying, “Despite how things are, I have and see a different reality. I will not use my mouth to announce satan’s woes and works. This is how it will turn out – all will be well in the end.” It means that my outcome is not dependent on my circumstances but on the faithfulness and power of God.
Therefore, I speak into all areas of your life: it is well with you, your family, job, business, parents, health, finances, academics, etc. Look around you and say to the ruins, loss, pain, marital challenge, etc. “IT IS WELL!”
