And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing.” – Genesis 39:22
REFERENCE:
Joseph’s journey seemed to take a nosedive; one day he was a Principal, and the next, a Prisoner in a Pit. However, in the Pit, Joseph was consistently doing right, and God was with him. As it was in Potiphar’s house, he got promoted and put in charge of the prisoners. Sometime later, Pharaoh had his Butler and Baker put in the same Pit for offenses they committed. It would work for Joseph’s elevation. God never abandons us in the Pit; It is a springboard to our next level.
Assigned to serve the Butler and Baker, Joseph was diligent in his service to them. He passed a major character test by being mindful of the needs of others and responding to them even in his Pit. Experiencing a low season of life should not make you insensitive to the plight of others. Can you identify those whom life has confined in the Pit with you? What can you do to help them? You may not have a car yet, but you can pay for someone else’s cab fare. That may be your ticket to your next level/destination; how you treat them may determine how far you go.
Joseph kept company with dreamers although his dream had not come true. He listened to them, unaware it would bring about the fulfillment of his dream. But the interpretation of the Butler’s dream precipitated the fulfillment of Joseph’s. The dream of a mobile phone maker must be interpreted for that of the phone case manufacturer to be too. God, the fulfiller of dreams, brings other people’s problems to you to solve, knowing that in their solution lies yours. Joseph’s ability and willingness to interpret dreams while in the Pit became his springboard to the palace of Pharaoh. “A man’s gift (if he uses it to serve even when not convenient) will make room for him and bring him before kings.”
Sadly, Joseph was forgotten in the Pit by the Butler, but not by God. Do not take offense when people you have done a kindness, forget you in their prosperity; “A man cannot receive anything unless God gives him.” Lasting promotion comes from God! At the right time, it will come and not delay. Joseph passed the test (of service and patience) and was remembered. So, consistently serve God and others while in the Pit, and your dreams will be fulfilled.

CALL TO ACTION
Be a blessing while in the Pit. Hone your skills and give your best in service, regardless of where you are today. Look away from men to God – Joseph learned to trust solely in God through his many disappointments. Today, appreciate someone God used to lift you during a dark season.
And I know (being fully persuaded) that all things are working together for my good because I love God, and He has called me according to His purpose. Therefore, I will help & show kindness to all I meet on my way to MY PALACE
I know that all things work together for my good…..but help me Lord to be sensitive, kind and selfless as I journey. I admit that sometimes it is really difficult to see beyond me when I am low but I latch unto your Grace because it is sufficient for me in Jesus’ name 🙏🏽
Amen
“Look away from men to God “ the one who compels men to lift others. I remember and appreciate those who showed me kindness and comfort in the pit and those whom God used to lift me out of the prison of ignorance and unemployment.
Am sure Joseph was so confident that help had come after he had interpreted the butler and bakers dream and the butler was restored to the palace. He waited patiently and it took another two years before he was remembered. Yet, Joseph was never angry now bitter until God remembered him. What also strikes me is that Joseph did not only serve the Butler and the Baker diligently but he was mindful and sensitive of their countenances. Hence he was able to know that something was wrong with the men under his care.
Becky, How sensitive are you to not only physical needs but also the emotounal needs of the people under your care and environ?
Lord, help me to be sensitive to the needs of people you have put under my care and help me to always be happy at and in my place of service knowing that you are preparing me in that PIT on my way to the PALACE!
Wow! Awesome view and thoughts, Rebecca. To be sensitive to the emotional needs of those around us. Great, great!
Hmmmm! You can say that again.
In the good and the bad, it’s all about You Lord
Father I thank you for the grace to trust you and be a giver to those in need even in my time of need, believing that you will never leave me stranded!
Amen
Lord help me to pass the test of service and patience. Let all I do be done in service to You. I am nothing without You. Thank You for people through whom You have blessed me and thank You for your presence!
Amen & amen!
