“Then Jacob lifted up his feet and went to the land of the peoples of the east.” – Genesis 29:1 (TLV – Tree of Life Version)
REFERENCE:
What a beautiful image this story paints for the weary and discouraged. Jacob was running from a family feud with his brother, running away from all he knew, headed into an unknown future. Wearied, worn, and rendered hopeless by the whole experience, he found a stone, used it as a pillow, and slept. In his dream, he saw a ladder reaching from the earth to heaven with angels ascending and descending it, and above the ladder stood the Lord, who made a promise of perpetual blessing to Jacob and his descendants after him. Jacob woke up in the morning, ‘lifted up his feet’ (according to the original language), and continued his journey.
The expression ‘lifted up his feet,’ meant that Jacob went on his journey energetically and cheerfully. What happened to Jacob between the previous night and the following morning? A divine encounter, an assurance of God’s presence, and a plan for his future. He arose from a place of drowsiness, despair, and discouragement, and with the joy of his encounter with God, he recommenced his journey with renewed excitement and energy.
You may be mentally exhausted on your journey, dealing with betrayal, suffering from a bad decision, or simply uncertain about tomorrow. Know that God is with you even in your lowest moment. The fact that you may not hear Him, or have a dream like Jacob’s does not mean He is not there with you. Regardless of where you are on your journey – a place of discouragement or tiredness, stopped pursuing your goals, or given up trying – there is a ladder that touches heaven. Heaven is transacting and orchestrating events in your favor, and angels are watching over you. God’s plan for you still holds true; do not despair.
So, I charge you, “Lift your feet and go!” Let your heart rejoice and let your feet be jubilant. When Jacob saw that God was still with him, he arose from that dark season of his life to become a nation to be reckoned with. You have not seen your best days yet; get up and get going! Refuse to believe the devil’s lies and your failures. Let NOTHING hold you down; your past or the social media posts of those who seem to be doing better than you, NOTHING.
Rejoice because heaven knows your situation and is working for you. Be assured of angelic assistance on your way, and trust God to fulfill His promise in your life.
You have laid down for too long; lift your feet and go; the joy of the Lord is your strength!
