“But Moses said to God, “I am not a great man! How can I be the one to go to Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of Egypt?”– Exodus 3:11 (ERV)
REFERENCE:
Ask many people; they will tell you they believe that God can do great things, but they are not sure He can do it through or for them. God may use some well-known person with an illustrious background, but rarely them. It is a mindset that says, “I am not a great man, so don’t expect great things from me.” Before you can do anything meaningful, you must eliminate such a mindset.
God gave Moses a mission, “Lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” Moses could not imagine God would use him, so he told God, “I am not a great man.” He had excuses enough to make God change His mind. But God would not let Moses sabotage his destiny; He did several miracles to convince him that he could do the work. Through much talk and by wonders and signs, God helped Moses to see that he was capable of doing great things.
Hence, God’s most significant work is not to do great things through us but to get us to believe He can do great things through us. We often explain why we are not qualified, recount our weaknesses, and tell God why we can’t or shouldn’t and why it will not work. The thief of all you can become or do is ‘self-doubt.’ Self-doubt gives you a million reasons why you should not dare; you will fail, play it safe, not built or fit for it, and wait for the right time.
Mountains only exist in the mind. Moses’ mountain was his definition of himself by himself, “I am not a great man.” Your mind is your greatest limit. Your mind can map your way out of a mess, except that we often condition and imprison it with negativity – I am not a great man. Who told you so, Moses? To think that Moses eventually became one of Israel’s most extraordinary men.
Self-doubt has killed more dreams than failure ever did. No matter how much God can, if you believe you can’t, then God can’t or won’t. Great things can only be done through minds that make room for greatness. What you believe sets the limits for what you become. You must see yourself first as a great man before God can use you for great things. John Peers said, “You can’t lead a cavalry (horsemen) charge if you think you look funny on a horse.” You are a great man.
