“He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” ~ Psalm 40:2
REFERENCE:
Psalm 40:1-3
This psalm pictures David in an affliction likened to a horrible pit that lasted for a season. He waited patiently, crying to God for deliverance, for which he later rejoiced because God inclined to him and heard his cry. In the place of waiting, God renewed David’s strength to bear the affliction; He did not leave him but brought him out of the horrible pit and gave him a new song.
Life’s troubles can often seem like we have found ourselves in a horrible pit of darkness, worry, and depression. When you are in a pit, you are cut off from what happens on the ground, and, depending on its depth, you will not be able to come out unless you get help outside yourself. David perpetually cried unto God from his pit until God heard and brought him out.
Miry clay implies sinking into trouble with no hope of respite or improvement. Whatever David was dealing with seemed to worsen with no hope of a way out; He needed God. May God stop you from further sinking into a financial mess, depression, marital collapse, sickness, business loss, fear, anxiety, and worry. Let God’s mighty hand reach down to pull you out.
God did not just listen as David prayed; He did something about it! He entered the pit with him and pulled him out. That is what Jesus did for us; He robed Himself in human flesh, entered this world’s pit, and died on the cross. Jesus died to prove His love for us, was buried to identify with us in our horrible pit, and was resurrected as proof of His power to deliver us out of a horrible pit.
Easter paints a picture of Jesus in a horrible pit of the grave. However, He came out of that ‘pit’ on Easter Sunday with great power. This Easter season, may the power of resurrection bring you out of the horrible pit of childlessness, confusion, addictions, insecurity, fear, etc. May you enjoy resurrection and lifting. Where men have concluded on you, God will surprise them.
May God set your feet upon the rock: establish you, your family, and your business. May He perfect all that concerns me and give you stability. May He change your story and give you a new song.
