REPLACE FEAR WITH FAITH

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” Mark 5:36

Have you ever been in a dire situation before? A place where you are hoping for a miracle or expecting that an otherwise degenerating situation will be salvaged? I know you must have been as I have too; perhaps you are even there now. Jairus’ daughter was seriously ill and laid at the point of death. Jairus was expecting a touch from the Master’s hand, a touch that will keep death’s cold hands off his daughter. He had earnestly petitioned Jesus to come heal his daughter and was so sure of a speedy response or an immediate intervention, but there was delay. A woman had interrupted Jesus and for Jairus, every second counted…with every tick of the clock, death came closer.

When you are in a situation like Jairus was in, your mind can get filled with myriads of thoughts and images. It is as if the mind, by default, begins to entertain pictures of the worst scenario, it hears the voice of hopelessness and thoughts of depression. With every delay in the reversal of the situation, your heart beats faster and fear ultimately dominates the mind and the heart.

For most of us, we hear these voices in our mind; however, God permitted us to hear the words spoken to Jairus, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” How do you think Jairus must have felt when he heard those words? Just imagine…

Jesus understood the secret mission of such words, “Strangulate Faith, Activate Fear!” Therefore, as soon as Jesus heard the words spoken to Jairus, he countered it. He basically was saying to him, “When you are desperate for a miracle, watch what you hear or read. If they are negative, they will kill your faith and produce fear…and you know that you cannot receive anything from God without faith.”

Words are very powerful; they can produce worry, anxiety, fear, anger or even faith. Knowing this about words, you must learn to feed your spirit with words that produce faith, words that take your eyes off men and circumstances, but place them on God – the Word of God then, is your best bet.

I don’t know what you believe God to do in your life this season. Perhaps, an expectation of yours has delayed. Maybe you are even seeing something that is medically unpalatable. Don’t let fear creep into your heart, it will worsen your situation and fill you with hopelessness. Replace every fear with faith in God – with man, it may be impossible, but not with God. For with (faith in) God, all things are possible!
