SEEKING WISDOM

My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will rejoice – indeed, I myself.  Proverb 23:15

Proverbs 23:15&16

Yesterday, we saw the value and virtue of wisdom as extolled through the pages of the bible. It says, “Wisdom is better than strength…,” “it is better than weapons of war.” “Wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.” “By wisdom, kings reign, and rulers decree justice.” To have wisdom is to have the capacity to show experience, knowledge, and good judgment. It is responding sensibly or intelligently to a particular situation.

A wise child gladdens the heart of his father; no doubt as Christians, when we follow God’s instructions and pursue wisdom, we gladden His heart because wisdom will lead us to walk in the best pathways for our lives. When we operate in biblical wisdom, we are manifesting our god-likeness in whatever situation we confront with wisdom. If wisdom then is so important to victorious living, it is profitable to seek wisdom. So, how do we get wisdom?

·      Job said it comes by walking in the fear of God (Job 28:28).

·      Solomon reveals that it comes by observing and learning from life and nature (Proverbs 6:6).

·      It comes by listening to the wisdom of the aged; e.g., parents and mentors (Proverbs 5:1).

·      It comes by studying the Scriptures (God’s Word), to know them. (II Timothy 3:15).

·      It comes by desiring it and asking God in earnest prayer (James 1:5).

“Wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times,” says Isaiah 33:6. There are certain instability around you right now; there are riddles in your life that you can’t find answers to, there are problems in your business and finances you have not been able to solve. It is time to take a break, withdraw, and go and get wisdom. My son, seek wisdom and be wise!
