SHOW EMPATHY

The Lord has brought upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the Lord has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. So now you are caught in your own evil, because you are a bloodthirsty man! 2 Samuel 16:8

It is interesting how people can  make conclusions about the reasons why a person may be going through a particular challenge. We become judges and interpreters of the seasons and events of people’s lives, when in actual sense, we have no clue about what’s happening between them and God.

Here, Shimei concluded that David was being punished by God for his actions against the house of Saul and because he reigned in Saul’s stead. Firstly, David had no hand in the death of Saul or Jonathan his son. Secondly, God Himself judged Saul, and if anything, He was glad that David reigned in place of Saul.

We should be sensitive to people’s plights. rather than judge or condemn them because they are going through a rough patch in life, we should learn to be quiet and pray for them and not be quick, like Job’s friends, to jump to conclusions about why they are going through what they are going through. It only hurts more than it soothes.

Put yourself in their shoes, how will you like people to treat you when you are having a bumpy ride on the road of life? Think about this and do likewise. Remember, what you can’t feel, you can’t heal.
