“He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.” ~ Ecclesiastes 5:10
REFERENCE:
Biblical history shows that Solomon was the wealthiest man that ever lived; when he was king, he made silver and gold as common as stones in Jerusalem. By practical wisdom, he made his nation the envy of others. He had many staff, exotic animals, tourist attractions, a musical orchestra, etc. The wisdom of Solomon on wealth is a must-get if you need money wisdom.
When you observe how some people relate to money, you can conclude that creating lasting wealth may become difficult for them. If you want to be wealthy, good money habits cannot be boycotted. In much of his writings, King Solomon taught time-tested money habits. We can see some in today’s reference scripture:
1. The Profit of the Land is for All: There is a blessing in the land for all. Even the king is served produce from the land, proving that the land has something to offer everyone. The world is full of opportunities for everyone regardless of class, learning, or pedigree. You must look for those opportunities, buy them with your time and make the most of them.
2. He Who Loves Silver will not be Satisfied…: No matter how wealthy a man is, he will find someone richer than him and may desire to strive for more. If you make wealth your chief goal, you will be miserable because nothing satisfies lust; no amount of money is ever enough. Lack of contentment will plague you with perpetual unhappiness; even when you get wealthy, true joy will be lacking. You will have so much but never see or appreciate it.
3. When Goods Increase, they Increase who Eat Them: This speaks of the indiscipline that often manifests when money comes. We think our lot will be better when we get more money, but it has a way of inflating your taste, spending or buying habits, charity, etc. You suddenly want to live big when your income increases. If you are not disciplined enough to save the extra and invest it, your lot will not be better than it was before the windfall.
4. The Sleep of a Laboring Man is Sweet: This is because he plays his part by working; he can trust God to breathe a blessing upon the work of his hands. A hard-working man needs not to envy anyone; he needs not to be afraid of his future nor worry that someone will accuse him of theft or fraud. He knows God’s promise: “In all labor, there is profit.” If what he earns from his work is not much, God will still ensure his needs are satisfied.
Go over these again and pick lessons to help you on your way to financial security. Without these values, wealth can be more of a curse than a blessing, says king Solomon on wealth.
