STUCK IN A RUT: MOVING FORWARD 2

I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you – Luke 15:18

In making the above statement, the prodigal son showed that he was willing to start again. He was not ashamed to admit that he missed it and that he took some wrong decisions. He did not dignify his actions with euphemistic names; he called it SIN – that is, ‘missing the mark.’ From that point onward, he retraced his steps, corrected his wrong, and consequently regained his son-ship position with his father which meant restoration of his fortunes.

On this note, we end this series on getting out of a rut with a question. Are you willing to start again? If yes, then this is the right time to take action. How?

1. Pray for a second chance and for God’s grace and help in this next phase.

2. Plan for progress and structure for success. Go over your goals again and write out definite steps to achieve them. Take bitable bits…set achievable goals. Be ready to start small, knowing that God can and will grow what you start. Many are stuck because they think certain things are beneath them – the prodigal son swallowed his pride and was ready to be a servant.

3. Cut off or reduce distractions – deal with anything that makes you compromise on your goals, that takes your attention away, diffuses your energy and breaks your focus. Eliminate some friendships, irrelevant spending, unnecessary trips, holidays and outings. Identify things that are important to your journey, calling, and getting to your desired destination.

4. Pursue and Persevere – no more inertia. ARISE! Get up and get started. Do something. Tell yourself you will never make an excuse for not pursuing or persevering again. Press on toward the mark and run in such a way to achieve it.

If you will arise and turn like the prodigal son, the Heavenly Father is ready to accept you and start with you again.

For some of you however, you got into a rut not by anything you did wrong, but circumstances that were beyond your control put you there. In this case, you can pray and believe God for a way of escape out of it because He wants you freed from bondage, and free to walk in the liberty He has given you. God’s will for you is continual progress.
