“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” – Psalm 150:6
REFERENCE:
Psalm 150:1-6
We often ignore the greatest gift God has given us: life itself. This season of Thanksgiving, I want to remind you that the greatest reason for Thanksgiving is not because you have but because you are. We find it difficult to thank God because we get occupied by unpaid bills, unanswered prayers, unmet deadlines, broken relationships, and unfulfilled dreams.
Many of us are guilty of being preoccupied by the seemingly unfair events around us; we envy our friends’ perceived better lives and worry about how to accomplish our goals. These thoughts leave us depressed, forgetting that the fact that we can have these concerns or think about these perceived imbalances in life is because we are breathing.
Only living people worry about these things. I bet you, no dead man knows if his girlfriend jilts him, no corpse worries about what clothing it wears, and neither can one in the grave comment on political or economic concerns. You are alive; God has given you the greatest gift. Solomon said, “A living dog is better than a dead lion.” This season of gratefulness, be thankful for breathing.
King David said, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” So, be thankful for breathing. Why? Because as long as you have life, it indicates that God is not done with you yet; things can change for the better. If you have life, you have hope, you can enjoy the simple privileges of life, and you can expect a better tomorrow. Many would love to be here, but they are ‘gone.’
Therefore, this season of Thanksgiving, look away from your mountain of troubles or unfulfilled expectations and thank God that you are alive. Be thankful that you are breathing, walking, moving, and talking. If that is all God has done for you this year (and I know He did more), He has done well. By the way, I have to be alive to write this, and you have to be alive to read it. I thank God for breathing; how about you?
