Better is a neighbor (friend) nearby than a brother far away. – Proverbs 27:10
REFERENCE
Proverbs 27:10
As you reflect on God’s goodness in 2016, you can see the significant roles that people you are in close relationship with made in your life. Think about who celebrated you on your birthday, who sent those encouraging text messages, who visited you in the hospital, who lent you their car to go on that important trip, who helped you in your financial crisis, who was there beside you at the hospital while your wife was inside the theater to deliver a baby – it was a close friend or some friends.
Friends are gifts from God. It is said that, “A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.” They are there when we cry, they tell us hard truths, they have our backs when things get rough and they are committed to us.
When you have found a true friend, you have found a recipe for pushing on in spite of life’s odds. No wonder King Solomon said, “A friend nearby is better than a brother in another city,” and that’s what many of our friends have been to us…Family!
Yes, you fight sometimes, but remember the joy of making up. It’s what makes friendship a rich experience. Many have found that friend in a colleague, in a neighbor, in a boss, in a spouse, in a spiritual leader or in a fiancé or fiancée. No matter where you have found friendship, thank God. Today, send a message to your friends and thank them for the unforgettable gift of their friendship over the years.
I end with the words of Helen Keller, “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light.”
