Then as he (Elijah) lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, ‘Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you. – 1 Kings 19:5 (NKJV).
REFERENCE:
Congratulations! You have made it to the first day of the second half of the year. The grace of God has kept and sustained you till today; take a moment now and whisper a thank you to God. Great! The last six months have been a journey with various experiences – victories, losses, pain, rejection, or betrayals. In fact, like Elijah, you may be at a point where you feel tired. However, the journey is not over; the second half just started, and you need God.
Elijah won a remarkable victory against Baal’s prophets; he ended three and a half years of famine, called fire from heaven, and turned the hearts of the people back to God. However, opposition arose against him, and he fled. Elijah got to the point of emotional and physical tiredness; he was depressed and suicidal, praying that God would take his life. He laid down and slept, and not too long after, an angel tapped him and gave him a meal of cake and water. The angel repeated this, telling Elijah to eat and drink because the journey ahead was too demanding for him. God saw the future and came to prepare him for it.
The journey to the end of the year is ahead of you. It is a journey into the unknown with its challenges and demands. You need God’s injection of strength and stamina for the days ahead; you need to be ‘fed’ by God because the journey ahead of you is too great for you. You will need wisdom, discernment, perseverance, faith, and hope for the days ahead; let God feed you. God’s meal is the impartation of the Holy Spirit for strength and hope. It is a timely word from God to firm up your faith for unprecedented victories. It is angelic escort all year round. You may feel worn from the experiences of the first half, but there is nothing as refreshing as getting a personal touch from God when you feel tired and discouraged. God will ensure your daily provision and keep you in good health; He will also meet your physical needs.
Elijah went in the strength of that divine meal for forty days and nights. May God do for you that which will encourage your heart, strengthen your resolve, revive your faith and assure you of victories ahead of you as the second half starts. May He deliver you from all forms of fatigue, discouragement, and despondence. You have not seen your best in the year yet. In the second half of the year, you will walk and not be weary, run and not faint, and God will give you the wings of an eagle to mount up and soar. The latter part of the year will be greater and better than the beginning. The journey may be too great for you, but it is not for our God. Rest in Him!
