“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ~ II Timothy 1:7
REFERENCE: I
Fear is a damaging emotion to man. Fear can stop your ability to think or act or, at best, make you act irrationally. It is satan’s greatest weapon against man. If satan is allowed to inject fear in the heart, his work is done; a cycle of negative thoughts, hopelessness, worry, paranoia, etc., will begin; such a person will end up sabotaging himself. Job said, “the thing I greatly feared has come upon me.” Fear is a spirit. If you sense it around you, know that it is not of God.
1 John 4:8 tells us that fear comes with torment. Torment is severe physical or mental suffering. It is anything that causes pain, affliction, and despair. Satan uses fear to enslave, incapacitate, and control people. He uses it to distort God’s plans for you. Whenever you hear an inner voice, ask you a negative question, e.g., “What if you never make it in life?” satan wants to inject the spirit of fear in you. Give it no place of rest in your heart, lest it brings a negative harvest.
Paul told Timothy, “God has not given you the spirit of fear.” Fear (the tormenting spirit) is not of God; it is an evil spirit that should be bound and cast out. We should rebuke fear in the name of Jesus. The spirit of fear is not for sons and daughters of God. Whether it is the fear of failure, abandonment, the unknown, or death, Christ has conquered fear and delivered us from it.
You can live victoriously over fear. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you with His voice and live in obedience to God’s word. Do not let fear find a resting place in your heart. Fearful thoughts may come but quickly address and silence them with the word of God. When fear says, “This symptom will turn fatal,” reply, “With long life He will satisfy me and show me His salvation!”
You can’t stop a bird from flying over your head, but you can stop it from building a nest there. In the same way, you can’t stop the thoughts of fear from passing through your mind, but you can refuse the spirit of fear to possess or control you. You have the capacity for courage; hence God commands you, “Fear not!” Remember, God, has not given you the spirit of fear.
