“Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and was injured; so he sent messengers and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this injury.” – II Kings 1:2
REFERENCE:
A man’s house is his castle; you would think he is safe in his house, but no, evil can befall him at home. Ahaziah succeeded his evil father, king Ahab, and continued in his wicked ways, fortified by his mother, Jezebel. Justice knocked him down through the lattice of his upper room. When he got injured and needed a doctor, he sent for the wrong doctor, Baal-Zebub of Ekron.
Why would a king of Israel seek medical help from a heathen god? The God of Israel already cut a covenant with His people: “I am the God who heals you.” Ahaziah had no abiding relationship with God, so it would be awkward for him to seek medical help from Israel’s Doctor. If you go to the wrong Doctor, you will not like the diagnosis. Ahaziah heard he would die.
How often have God’s children gone to the ‘wrong doctor’ for matters that ail them? You are seeking the wrong Doctor when seeking alternatives that shut God out when going through a difficult time or in desperate need of a healing or a financial miracle. It dishonors God, and He will not tolerate it. It shows a lack of faith in God and in His ability to hear, heal, and help you. It reveals an evil, unbelieving heart that has departed from the Lord. (Hebrews 3:12).
Ahaziah was a victim of bad parenting. He had a father whose relationship with God was lukewarm and an idolatrous mother, and he took after them. Be careful of the influences that mold you – mentors, social media, family, community, or circle of friends. If you don’t, you may seek help from the wrong doctors – seers, bribery, stealing, illicit relationships, cheating in exams, etc. You will seek every way to make it but God’s way.
If you neglect God in your time of comfort and peace, your heart will not lead you, nor will your faith be bold to seek Him in your time of distress and need. No matter what afflicts you, there is medicine in God’s word; ‘they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.’ God is all you need to have all your needs met. Do not let life push you away from Him. Stop seeking the wrong Doctor to solve your problems. Seek God; He will not put you to shame.

PRAYER:
+ Lord, I surrender my life totally to You. I refuse all alternatives or pseudo-gods. You are my God.
+ May I continually seek You through good and bad times, knowing that You are the answer to all my questions, the solution to all my problems, and medicine to all my troubles.
No alternatives; only YOU, Lord.
Just before we opened to study today’s devotional, I had it impressed on my spirit to pray against wrong doctors.
The spirit of God is dynamic.
Thank you Pastor for this word in season.
Glory be to God. May our eyes be on God alone, and may His sufficiency be sufficient for us in all our needs.
Amen.
You are my all in all! My Father, Lord and Master, who takes care of me!
