For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever. Psalm 9:18
REFERENCE
Psalm 9:18-20
Have you ever been in a place where you feel alone, wondering if God still knows your post code, if HE still cares? Perhaps, it’s been years since you expressed a desire before God, and you are still waiting for an answer, for favor. Well, in times like these, the devil wants you to think that God doesn’t care about you, that HE has forgotten you.
David who wrote this Psalm, went through a lot: he was persecuted by his boss, in peril of losing his life, reviled by people, rebelled against by his son, lost a new born baby, and although anointed king, wandered in the wilderness like a fugitive for 13 years. However, sitting on his throne later and living his dream, he must have looked back at his moments of despair and concluded: ‘the needy shall not always be forgotten and the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.’ Elsewhere, “I was young, but now I am old, I have never seen the righteous forsaken, or their seed begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).
You may be at a point in your life, dealing with unanswered prayers, unmet expectations and contrary winds blowing; a place where things you have believed God for are delayed, and you wonder if God still knows you are there or even cares at all. Listen to David, “It won’t always be like this; I know by experience. That need is not forgotten by God and your expectation for that thing you are destitute of will not perish.” Just as a nursing mother can’t forget her child, God can’t forget you. Let this be your confidence, let the Word assure you.
A pastor friend once told me about a man he ‘sensed’ to call promptly. On answering the phone, the man, who had lost everything he had, burst out crying and said, “Now I know God has not forgotten me.” He had a gun on the seat next to him in the car and was about to ‘end it all’ when the call came in. Upon counsel, he started again, and God has started restoring all he lost.
Don’t despair; God has not forgotten you because you are simply unforgettable!
