“Of the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh…one hundred and twenty thousand armed for battle with every kind of weapon of war.” – I Chronicles 12:37

I Chronicles 12:8-15 & 37

A close look at the quality of men that God brought to David as his partners in purpose (to help his progress from being a fugitive to a crowned king) reveals unique gifts. Interestingly, they came from the different tribes of Israel to partner with David – it didn’t matter that he was from the tribe of Judah. True helpers don’t get caught up in your nativity or skin color, they simply come with a great sense of mission to fulfill a purpose in your life. They come with useful gifts.

The Reubenites, Gadites and half-tribe of Manasseh were said to be soldiers who could battle with every kind of weapon of war. They were versatile and multi-talented – able to use both hands to hold the sword or throw a slingshot. The Gadites were well trained, could use the shield and spear, were fast runners and good mountain climbers. They were not afraid of war and could get the job done quickly. Another virtue of these Gadite ‘helpers’ is seen in verse 15; they crossed the Jordan river when it had overflowed its banks and put their enemies to flight. They were bold and daring, unafraid of challenges and never deterred by obstacles or opposition.

When your partners in purpose come, they will come with skills and gifts needed to take you to your ‘throne.’ If they don’t have anything to contribute, look elsewhere. True helpers will be people prepared for the tasks that God has for you, skilled and with varied experiences in the theatre of life. Their weapons are varied – experience, learning, contacts, prayers, etc. – they have what it takes to deal with the devil. They are daring and will tell you ‘It can be done.’ Even when the ‘Jordan’ seems threatening, they are ready to cross with you. They believe in you and that the mission is possible. They are quick learners, ready to adapt to your vision. They are light footed, ready to run with it. They are courageous and will keep going on and on and on and on…

You may say, ‘Is this possible?’ ‘Do these people exist?’ Yes, they do. All you need to discover them is,  discover your purpose and your mission and they will show up. When they see that God has anointed you for something, they will find you out, even if you are in the cave. I pray that they show up, sense the hand of God upon you and hasten to help you. I also pray that you will be such to somebody. Use your gifts to partner with someone to fulfill their purpose too.
