“It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.” ~ II Samuel 11:1
REFERENCE:
Recently, we looked at King David as a man of a noble spirit. Still, some dirty deeds stained his illustrious personage. Although the sweet psalmist of Israel and a man after God’s heart, David was human. A look at David’s dirty deed reveals the progression of sin – how one wrong decision, if unchecked, can lead to several other destructive decisions.
David’s dirty deed began with his inability to discern time and season. The men of Issachar were famous for their ability to discern time and season; Solomon said, “A wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment.” It was the spring of the year when kings went out to battle. King David misread the time; he used the time instead to relax at home. By that, he tilted the scales in favor of the tempter, satan. By being out of alignment with the season, he exposed himself.
Rewind a bit; David’s dirty deed began when he violated God’s governing principle that kings should not multiply wives to themselves. He lacked romantic restraint and was indulgent of his base appetites. By misreading the time, he further set himself up for a fall. If his attention were where God wanted it, he would not have put it where God didn’t like it. While Joab was warring with Rabbah, satan was warring with David, and he recorded better success than Joab.
We often struggle with lustful thoughts and wrong desires. So, we must constantly be on guard against the devil. What climaxed on David’s rooftop that day must have begun twenty years earlier in his life – unbridled lust and misusing time just provided an opportunity for satan to strike. The way to not let sinful propensities take advantage of you is to be sensitive to God’s timing and align yourself accordingly. Know WHEN to stay, go, talk, be silent, say no, etc.
What time is it in your life? Is it the time to be more prayerful, focus on your business, invest in your studies or marriage, etc.? May be God is telling you that the season you are in is for building foundations that will carry your destiny by studying, learning, exercising, sowing financial seeds, building friendships, etc.? Not knowing the time may make you repeat David’s dirty deed.

PRAYERS:
+ Dear Heavenly Father, bring me into an understanding of Your times and seasons for my life.
+ May I always know what ‘time’ it is and what God expects me to do per time.
+ May I use every time I have to build my relationship with God and the foundations for my destiny.
+ Lord, take away from me any sinful tendency that satan may appeal to in a particular season.
I come against deadly distractions; help me, Lord, to use my time well.
