“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” ~ Matthew 7:7
REFERENCE:
God extends an invitation and a blank check to us in this verse. It is an invitation to come to God in prayers and supplication; it is a blank check because there are no restrictions to what we can pray for. The strength of the invitation to prayer is in the acronym, ‘A.S.K.’ ‘A’ for ask, ‘S’ for seek, and ‘K’ for knock. The acronym captures what God expects us to do in prayers – A.S.K.!
This three-pronged aspect of prayer speaks of the need for prayer, persistence, and seeking God. The Greek tense used for the words (in A.S.K.) is the continuous tense; it suggests, “Ask, and keep on asking; seek, and keep on seeking… for whoever continuously seeks will find what he seeks.” You have the promise of God that He will give you what you ask for. So, ask boldly, hold on to God in the place of prayer. Don’t give up until you see His miraculous answer.
“Ask, and it will be given to you.” James said, “You have not because you ask not.” Asking is one sure way to receive anything from God. Jesus often asked those who came to Him, “What do you want?” God hears when you ask Him for anything and is willing to answer. He has your good at heart, and even if what you ask for delays, be patient and thankful; it will come.
“Seek, and you will find.” What are you seeking? God’s will for your life, marriage, or career? Are you seeking God for where to stay or His mind about a family situation? He has promised that every active seeker will find what they seek. He will guide you to find what you seek as you study His word and gather with believers in church or small groups. Go deeper; seek God now!
“Knock, and the door will be opened to you.” When someone knocks on your door, you tell them to come in or open it. The invitation to knock, and the promise of God opening the door, are connected. If you know someone is behind the door, but they are not answering, you are more persistent in knocking. Keep knocking; God will soon set open doors before you.
Let today be a reminder to you to be tireless in praying. God keeps records; He knows what you desire, but He has said, A.S.K. Therefore, get back on your knees; God will answer.
