Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! James 1:22 (MSG)
REFERENCE
James 1:22-25 (MSG)
We were not created to reason with what God’s Word says, but to obey it! Why spend time studying and listening to the Word if you will not obey it? Before God, obedience is the ultimate; as seen in today’s passage, the doers and not just the hearers are the ones that get blessed.
It is not what you give to God or your efforts that matter – it is your obedience to His voice. Like Naaman in II Kings 5:9-12, many people prefer to pay a costly price to get out of a bad situation; rather than simply follow and obey God’s voice concerning that situation.
II Corinthians 10:6 says, “And being ready to punish all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” This means, it is only when you walk in complete obedience to the Word of God in your life, that God can also bring into obedience certain situations that have been disobedient to His Word in your life.
What has God said concerning your marriage, finances, relationships, health, career, and other aspects of your life that seem too hard for you to act on? It is better to do what God wants you to do, no matter how difficult it seems, than to live with the consequences of disobedience.
Disobedience is Satan’s strategy to keep you from a better destiny, and to keep you longer in an unpleasant situation. As a Christian, many times you find out that disobedience to the Word of God is what causes the failures you experience in different facets of your life.
On the flip side, those who go on errands of obedience always receive the reward of obedience; e.g. God turned Job’s captivity when He obeyed God’s instruction to pray for his friends. An embarrassing situation turned into celebration at the wedding in Cana because they obeyed Jesus’ instruction. By his obedience to the voice of God, Peter moved from frustration to satisfaction in his business.
Therefore, to maintain a life of winning or victory, seek what God is saying and obey it. He will never demand you to do what He has not enabled you to do. The factory that produces every miracle is obedience to divine instructions. Act on what you hear!
