“These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these (carpenters) are come to fray them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.” ~ Zechariah 1:21 (KJV)
REFERENCE:
Our text tells how four destroying horns ravaged Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. The devastation was such that nobody lifted their heads; bowed down by oppression, sorrow, and misery, the people lost their confidence. However, God would send four carpenters to restore their hope and land.
A horn represents power and dominion in the scriptures. The horns that scattered the land were military and political powers empowered by satan to stop the children of God. Done so methodically, they decimated the people until they became despondent and helpless; they robbed them of their identity and dignity. However, God would send them four carpenters to repair, rebuild, and restore the lost glory of their land and its people. They are called carpenters because they were wise and savvy and trained in nation-building, politics, and kingdom matters. They were human agents employed by God to defeat the powers (horns) hostile to His Church. Theologians suggest that they were Zerubbabel, Joshua, Ezra, and Nehemiah. Their number is the same as the “horns,” showing their adequacy for the work they were to execute.
Having traveled through life for a while, you can identify damages that ‘horns’ have caused in your life: dropped out of school, lost a valued relationship, emotionally wounded as a kid, quarrels in your marriage, struggling with your identity as a teen, a child out of wedlock, or you lost a well-paying job, pregnancy or child. The good news is that God knows that an enemy did these, but He will undo them. He will bring your carpenters to you – people, jobs, bosses, gifts, associations, a spouse, child, etc. He will give you a restorer for every destroyer, a friend for every foe, and a filler for every emptier. God will adequately reward and compensate you.
Wherever horns have harassed, oppressed, and violated your life, God will send carpenters that will repair, restore, rebuild and renew. Jesus is our ultimate carpenter (born to a carpenter)! May He heal your physical and emotional wounds, give you double for your trouble, roll away your shame and reproach, and give you beauty for ashes. May today mark the turning point for the better in your life, and may your carpenters hurry and come to you, in Jesus’ name.
