“Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on…” – Matthew 6:25
REFERENCE:
It is important to God that you do not worry about the details of your life. Worry is detrimental to your general well-being, so Jesus repeated, “Do not worry” three times in these few verses. We live in an uncertain world where most of the things we respond to are other people’s fault – their decisions or choices; hence, we are prone to anxiety and worry.
Why are you agitated over something that is not in your power to fix? Why are you losing today over a tomorrow that is not yet here? Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not yet here, and today is the only day you have. If we fill our hours with yesterday’s regrets and tomorrow’s worries, we will have no today to be thankful for or genuinely live. We will either live in the future and postpone the amazing life, or be trapped in the past, relieving a sweet or bitter experience.
Birds are amazing. One recently made its nest by our bathroom window. My wife and I have watched it bring twig after twig to build its nest. We have seen it lay two eggs and sit on them for about two weeks. We also saw the eggs hatch a few days ago, and now, two cute chicks are in the nest, looking like two balls of cotton wool stained with grey and brown (see pictures).
The bird did not build our house, but it uses our window pane. It neither planted the grasses nor cut them to dry up for it to use as twigs for its nest. God’s providence arranged it all. If you ever feel tempted to worry or doubt if God cares or can meet your needs, look at the birds of the air; they do not sow, reap, or gather into barns, yet God feeds and protects them. Are you not of more value than these? Don’t worry about your life or future, be like the birds.
Is your life not more than food and your body more than clothing? Do you think that if God gave you a body and put life in it, He cannot supply all you need to preserve both? That bird by our window never seems worried; I don’t think she thinks of how her babies will feed. She flies off to feed and comes back with something for them. Someone said, “It is not that birds don’t have troubles, but they ensure they always have a song.” Praise God, be like the birds.
Stop worrying. ‘Worry is not fore-sight; it is fear-sight, and faith-sight is its only cure.’
