“Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.” ~ John 9:2-3
REFERENCE:
Trouble sometimes comes back-to-back and never seems to diminish. I have experienced days like that; questions quickly arise: “God, what have I done wrong? Where did I miss it? Lord, why me?” There are a few times that these questions are appropriate, but primarily, trouble comes because we are in this world. Still, the comfort we have is that God is working despite them.
Trouble is a result of the fall of man. Having them does not mean you are worse than others; if you have few, you are not better. Jews of Jesus’ days believed bodily afflictions indicated sin in the soul or the family line. So, when the disciples saw the blind man, they asked Jesus if the man was suffering for something he or his parents did.
Jesus gave them no direct answer as to ‘why?’ He instead put things in proper perspective for them. 1. Affliction is not necessarily because of sin. 2. God has a greater purpose for troubles. 3. Trouble submitted to God will eventually serve the purpose of God. 4. God’s nature is to work to resolve the trouble. Jesus showed them that God was working, although it didn’t seem so; so, by a miracle, He healed the man to prove that healing is part of God’s work and His will.
The disciples saw the man as a subject of theological disputes, but Jesus saw a man needing help. Where men see a problem or a hopeless case, God sees an occasion to work. So, instead of getting into fruitless theological dialogs within yourself when in trouble, know that God is working and ask for His help and intervention. God is working to destroy all the works of satan.
God is working and will keep working in your life. Refrain from being deceived by how bad the situation looks. The man in our story was born blind; it was an age-long trouble, but God worked for his relief. You cannot be a victim of the consequences of your sin or your parents’ sins as long as God is working. That trouble is not to shame, humiliate, limit, or make life difficult for you; it qualifies you for heaven’s attention and mercy; it is to reveal God’s works in your life!
