“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” ~ Romans 12:21
REFERENCE:
We live in a world where evil and wickedness prevail. We all confront evil at some point and seek to overcome it. The problem, however, is that evil has unknowingly sipped into us because we live in this world; hence, our tactic for fighting evil is often with evil (i.e., revenge). Yet, the only scripturally guaranteed way to defeat evil is with good. Yes, it takes light to win darkness.
Good wins over evil. I will illustrate with a story in my collection. A lady complained to her mother: “Mom, I can’t stand my husband. I want to kill him but I lack the courage to do it, can you please help me?” Her mom replied: “Yes, my daughter, I can. But there is a small hitch. You will have to make peace with him first so that no one will suspect you for his death. Be kind and good to him, take care of him. Be romantic, grateful, patient, loving, and submissive to him.”
The mother continues: “Resist the urge to be bossy or overly critical. Be less selfish, more just, more tolerant, and listen to him more. I know you can do it, so, don’t doubt yourself. Work starts this evening. Can you do this my girl?” She replies: “Yes mom.” Mom says: “Well, take this white powder; it is what will kill him. Put a bit in his food every day, and he will die slowly.”
After 30 days, the daughter returns to her mother: “Mom, I no longer want to kill my husband. He is so romantic, loving and caring. I like him now; he has changed and become kinder than before. What can I do to reverse the effect of the poison?” Mom replies: “Hahaha. Don’t worry. What I gave to you was cassava flour. He will not die. The real poison was actually in you. When you fuel hatred and anger within, they kill slowly more than poison. Hence, I had to work on you instead of your husband.”
We are often blinded to the evil within our hearts because all our focus is on the other person, but the change we desire from the other person begins with us. Paul said, “Repay no one evil for evil… “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink.” Good wins over evil – this is the only way. “If you want victory over negative vibes, turn God’s love on.”
