“When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” ~ John 5:6
REFERENCE:
The lyrics of a song come to mind today: “Peace, when trouble blows, Jehovah sees, Jehovah knows…when sorrow nears, Jehovah sees Jehovah hear.” Years ago, it was such a comforting song. No matter where life has detained you, Jehovah knows and cares. He will come and save you. Don’t let satan lie to you that God has abandoned you; it is not possible.
Life can put you in situations where you cannot help yourself, like the man in our text. He had a situation that needed his physical ability to come out, but he was lame. To make matters worse, he found himself among people who needed what he needed and were better suited and qualified for it. His chances were slim, so life detained him in that condition for many years.
Many people are heartbroken, confused, suicidal, hopeless, and do not see any form of relief ahead. They wonder if anyone cares enough to reach out to them in their pain, loneliness, need, or low moment. They think, “Does anybody notice my tears, hear my cry, or that I have not made progress in a long while? Although this man had been at the pool for 38 years, he couldn’t find anyone who cared enough to pay attention to his situation and help him.
Someone noticed him, however—Jesus Christ. All the while, the man was in pain, abandoned, ignored, etc., Jehovah saw and cared. Jesus felt every pain, shame, rejection, or abandonment man must have felt. Although busy Himself, Jesus was mindful to attend to the man; He reached out and touched him and ended his 38-year-old shame, incapacitation, and disappointment.
No one may see your situation, feel your pain, or hear your silent cries, but Jehovah knows and cares. He will step in and restore you to a state of peace, wholeness, and wellness. God loves to help the helpless and to lift the forgotten out of misery. Don’t lose heart, and don’t be upset with those you think should help you but did not. God will soon change your story and give you a better outcome than what was meant to be; He did it for this lame man, and He’ll do it for you.
