“Lift up your eyes, look around and see; all these gather together and come to you. As I live,” says the Lord, “You shall surely clothe yourselves with them all as an ornament, and bind them on you as a bride does.” ~ Isaiah 49:18
REFERENCE:
As we walk with Judah on their journey to recovery, let us consider the beautiful picture of their total restoration. Although they had spent years in captivity, God would bring them back to their land. He would rebuild the burnt houses and repopulate them. The change will be such that God calls them to lift up their eyes and see.
God represents Judah as a mother bereaved of her children, stricken in age and with no hope of having other children. The invaders ravished the land, killed her citizens, took some away as slaves, and left Judah in sorrow and pain. However, God promised that Judah would have the joy of seeing children she never thought she had. Just as they had done in Egypt, the Israelites multiplied in captivity. Those who returned to Canaan were more than those who left. Judah will end up with more people than she had before her invasion.
Some things are noteworthy in the divinely orchestrated events that led to Judah’s comeback:
a. The sudden return of the people and of the re-population of the land. (Haste – vs.17)
b. The unimaginable sudden withdrawal of the occupying army/invaders. (vs.17)
c. They returned more empowered than they went; they became as priceless jewels. (Vs.18)
d. The need for a larger land mass, from being desolate to becoming overpopulated. (Vs.19)
e. Judah’s disbelief at how they could grow in number through adversity in such a short time. She asked, “Who birthed all these ones since I lost my children?” (Vs.21)
The good thing is that ‘mother’ Judah would be alive to see this comeback. It would not be a story told to her; it would not be history taught to future generations in which she did not partake. No! Her eyes would see the return of her ‘upgraded’ children. The same eyes that wept when they went into captivity shed tears of joy when Judah’s seed came back.
Listen to God: “Your eyes will see the goodness of God.” If your eyes have seen the negative medical report, they will see the positive one. If they saw the sack letter, they would see the opening of a new door; and if they witnessed the loss of a relationship, they would see God’s beautiful replacement. Your eyes will see good in this land of the living. Your mourning will turn into dancing, and God will give you double honor for your shame. God will bring prosperity, freedom, restoration, double for your trouble, etc., and you will lift up your eyes and see.
