“…Let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.” – Isaiah 54:2.
REFERENCE:
Yesterday, we saw that God wants us to experience uninhibited growth in every area of our lives. The instruction to ‘ENLARGE YOUR TENT’ is a call to action. What does this mean for you? What practical things can you do to ready yourself for the greater, bigger, and better you?
Stretch out your curtains – The curtain is a tent’s covering and the part of the tent we see. It is the part of the tent that houses the people or persons within it (container). It is the outwardly beautiful or ugly part of the tent. Your body is a curtain sewn to make the tent of your life. You have to take care of your body to reach for new things. Treat it to good rest and diet; keep it clean and healthy. If a tent’s curtain is weak and worn, the tent will not stand, and its inhabitants are not safe. A hole in any part of the curtain can unravel the whole tent.
Assess your life honestly and commit to being better. Take a wholesome look at your life – your relationship with God, your marriage, relationships, career, academics, business, etc. Am I at my best, or can things be better? Identify whatever eats at your efficiency and eliminate it. Commit to doing something different, and take whatever you do to the next level. Take a thorough look at your ‘tent’ so as not to miss any holes that need mending. You can also get your friends or family members to give you an honest appraisal of who they think you are.
Lengthen your cord – The cord is what connects the curtain to the stakes and keeps it stretched out. It determines the extent of the tent; without it, the curtain will be without form and cannot ‘contain’ anything. The bigger and higher you want to build, the stronger and longer your cord. Don’t just remain where you are; extend yourself to new horizons; get exposed to what others are doing or how better they are doing what you are doing. Get out of your comfort zone, and see the world. Read wide, learn new things and invest in improving yourself.
There is so much God can and will do through you if only you will prepare yourself and make room for more. As long as you have room for more, God will keep pouring His oil into you like the widow and her empty barrels in II Kings 4. God has no problem using men to serve His purpose; the question, however, is, “How many men would make room for Him to use them?”

PRAYERS:
+ Lord, where I feel too tired to try and learn again or to stretch and love again, I ask that You give me the grace and the strength.
+ I present my life to You as the widow’s empty barrels. I constantly need you to pour ‘fresh oil’ into me. May I not get to a point where I’m too full to have You pour into me – too full of myself.
I receive grace to avail myself as an empty barrel for you Lord to constantly pour fresh oil into me..
Amen!
Lord help me to do what I need to do to mend my tent, and strengthen my cords. I will not be a hindrance to your pouring into me.
