Yesterday we ended with the thought that being mission-minded is an integral part of living a purposeful and meaningful life on earth. Below are some practical things that can help you develop mission-mindedness.
Firstly, identify your goal and calling in life – What is your goal post in life? Why is that important to you? When you have done that, then develop a Mission Statement that will help you to achieve that goal. A mission statement that tells you what attitude you should adopt, what activities or training you should get, and what regimen you should put yourself on in order to achieve your goal.
Secondly, develop a daily ‘To Do’ List – One characteristic of mission-minded people is how much they achieve in 24 hours compared to other people. Their secret is simple; they take time to itemize what they hope to achieve each day. This eliminates time wasters and makes it easy for them to make the most of every minute and account for their time. Learn to redeem the time, because once gone, it is difficult to get it back. This is the secret to high productivity.
Thirdly, be passionate about today – Where you are now, even if it does not look like it, has a bearing on where you are going tomorrow. So, be dedicated and passionate about the responsibilities committed to you now. Take them as a mission from God and be diligent in dispensing them. If you are not very clear about the kind of tomorrow you want, I am certain that it exists in your today as a seed. So, treat today the best way that you can, and it will birth the best tomorrow there ever can be for you.
Finally, continually go back to God in prayers – Always seek God’s face about His plan and purpose for your life. Ask Him to strengthen you to face the challenges of today and prepare you for the calling of tomorrow. Ask Him for clarity, for direction, for help, and for tenacity. Also, ask Him to fill you with a sense of joy and hope. Joy in where you are now, and hope for where you are headed tomorrow.
At every point in time in life, vacancies exist and the people God will ultimately promote are those who have a sense of mission, those who give where they are today their 100%, who understand that where they are now is contributing to where they are going tomorrow.
