Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed…” – Mark 4:30&31
REFERENCE:
Jesus was a great storyteller, and He told many parables. He used them to teach revolutionary and potent truths that still speak today. A parable is a story told to illustrate some doctrine or moral point, and Jesus told fascinating ones to describe how the kingdom of God functions. A picture speaks louder than a thousand words, and parables are words in picture form. We will be looking at some of them for relevant lessons to help us live as Kingdom people while here on earth. We will begin today by looking at the parable of the MUSTARD SEED.
Mustard seeds are smaller than the seeds of most plants, but when planted, they manifest great potential. The miracle of the mustard seed is in the size of the tree that proceeds from the minuscule seed. The mustard tree grows tall and spreads wide by shooting out branches large enough for birds of the air to nest in and to provide shade; its fruits also nourish many. This parable teaches us God’s plan and purpose for all ‘kingdom projects.’ He wants anything His children venture into – family, business, blog, music, entertainment, etc. – to grow and to be a blessing to humanity.
Have you started a venture, business, ministry, or even a family? God wants it to grow. You have heaven’s backing to ensure that the works of your hands prosper. Don’t settle for little, small or irrelevant; strive to let whatever you do become a tree with branches, one that blesses families of the earth. That will be pleasing to our God who likes it BIG. On the other hand, you may have an idea or a dream, but when you look at your finances or at what other people are doing, yours looks small and seems not to stand a chance. No, that is your mustard seed, and every mustard seed has a great future. What released the potential of the mustard seed is that it was ‘planted;’ action was taken. If it remained in the farmer’s hands or barn, it would only remain a seed. So, take action today; register the business, write the first line of the book, make inquiries about a shop, open your YouTube channel, do your first video with your phone, and send out the first broadcast to advertise your idea. Again, I say, “Take action, plant your ‘mustard seed!’
God has no problem with little beginnings; He only has a problem when the little beginning remains little and neither grows nor increases. Growth is the natural order in the kingdom of God. Therefore, I prophesy that your latter will be greater than your beginning, in Jesus’ name.
