For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6

Romans 8:1-8 & 12-14
Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 described believers who are sense-ruled, lacking spiritual discernment and carnal, as walking in the flesh. The flesh includes anything that depicts ungodly passions that draw men away from yielding themselves to the Lord and to the things of the Spirit. It also means walking by the senses (or responding only to the physical) and not by faith.
As a believer, you battle daily with decisions to either walk in the flesh or the Spirit; whichever gains control over you determines the kind of believer you are. Our text revels that walking in the Spirit brings you ‘LIFE & PEACE.’ On the other hand, walking in the flesh only brings ‘DEATH.’
You can tell you are walking in the Spirit when your flesh has been crucified, your actions line up with the Word and you bear the fruit of the Spirit. Likewise, you should know you are walking in the flesh when you are sluggish or unexcited about the things of the Spirit, when you manifest the works of the flesh and when you make decisions based only on your senses, never stretching out in faith – thereby displeasing God (Hebrews 11:6).
To be victorious as a believer, you will have to deal with the flesh before it gives you an undesirable harvest. The best way to deal with the flesh is to crucify it, i.e. not indulge it by giving it the ungodly desires it craves. Deliberately starve it of the things that strengthen it, subject it to the Word and to fasting and prayer (mostly, praying in the spirit). When your spirit is well fed with the Word, it enables your spirit to instruct your flesh and keep it in line with God’s will.
The choice to walk in the flesh or Spirit is yours to make; it is just like setting life and death before you. I pray that you will choose LIFE so that you may experience abundant living, in Jesus’ name (Deuteronomy 30:19).
