“But you, O Lord, are a merciful and loving God, always patient, always kind and faithful.” Psalms 86:15
REFERENCE:
People call many things or men ‘gods,’ but only one God exists. I learned early as a believer that the qualities in our main verse distinguish God from every other God. We may find these qualities in parts of whatever people worship, but only in the Almighty God do you find them all wrapped up in one. This is why He is the unequaled God.
When you know the character of someone, you can predict how they will act in any situation. Likewise, Christianity can only be as good as your knowledge or concept of God. Only when you have a healthy perception of God’s character can you cultivate a healthy and sustainable relationship with Him. He is merciful, loving, patient, kind, and faithful.
Many people have been brainwashed to see God differently from what our verse says. They see Him as a hard taskmaster, mean, ready to strike, and with a short fuse. They find it hard to trust and build a loving relationship with Him. Most of these people are in false religions where their relationship with God is a master-servant one, and they dare not call Him Father.
We can call God Father. He wants us to know Him as a father in a love relationship with us. The attributes in our verse make Him a father that all earthly fathers can model after:
Merciful – ready to forgive the erring one. Loving – accepting, embracing all, forgiving, and good. Patient with the weak and struggling. Kind to all, making His rain fall on the good and the bad. Faithful in His dealings with us; a dependable God who will always do what He says He will do.
There is none compared to our God; He is unequaled, unrivaled, and superior to all who claim the title, ‘god.’ He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was faithful to lift an orphan girl, Esther, to the palace. He preserved Daniel in the lion’s den. His love gave Nineveh a second chance, even when he was doomed to destruction. He is the same today; you can trust Him. He loves you and will forgive your shortcomings. He is ready to pardon and help you to rise again.
