“David went into the tent he had set up for the sacred chest. Then he sat there and prayed: Lord All-Powerful, my family and I don’t deserve what you have already done for us, and yet you have promised to do even more. Is this the way you usually treat people?” ~ II Samuel 7:18-19
REFERENCE:
Several years ago, while struggling as a young man, things were quite challenging; I was doing my best, but it seemed insufficient. I had told my fiancée (now wife) that we would marry that year, but… I leave the rest to your imagination. Then, one day, I got a call to come and take possession of a used Mercedes Benz. Upon receiving the call, I felt light-headed and ran to the corner of the room, feeling so ‘small’ before a big God, thoroughly humbled by grace.
My experience is a weak depiction of what happened to David. When God ‘finished’ with him, although a king, he went and sat on the floor, stupefied and humbled by the dealings of God’s grace. David pondered everything God had done and promised to do for him, saying, “Is this how you usually treat people? This is not normal. I never heard anything like this before.”
Do you blame David? See what God did and promised to do for him:
a. Took him from following sheep to leading His people.
b. Gave him the gift of His presence and victory in his battles.
c. Made his name great and built him an eternal legacy.
d. Promised him a peaceful death only at a ripe old age.
e. He would adopt his son and never abandon him (the son) no matter what he did wrong.
f. He would establish David’s kingdom and throne forever – through his son, the Messiah.
Grace cannot get more uncommon than this. I can’t think of anyone in the bible, no matter how pious, that God made such a promise to. David said, “I have not heard this done for anyone around me before. Something is wrong here; I don’t deserve all this.” He was suddenly humbled by grace and overcome by his sense of smallness. It is the product of God’s uncommon grace.
MY PRAYER FOR YOU: I decree and declare that God will select you for great honor. He will do something that has no antecedent in your lineage for you; His blessing will overwhelm you and make you feel small before Him. Uncommon grace will produce blessings that your children’s children will benefit from. God will use you to put your family’s name and nation on the global stage. You are highly favored and blessed above all men/women, in Jesus’ name.
