“And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” ~ Genesis 5:24
REFERENCE:
The Bible records that Enoch’s predecessors lived for some years after giving birth; however, regarding Enoch, it recorded that after giving birth to his son, Methuselah, “Enoch walked with God.” A unique relationship with God characterized his life. His forebears seemed to have busied themselves with irrelevances. They waited for death’s cold hands to take them away. But not Enoch; he made every day count for God; he chose to walk with God.
You cannot have a meaningful walk with a person whose existence you are unaware of. Enoch was conscious of God’s existence and deliberately built a relationship with Him. To know a man’s close friend, find that person they have a daily walk with because in walking, they will talk, share their secrets, and build intimacy. The fruit of Enoch’s walk with God was evident.
The expression, ‘walk with God,’ speaks of a true and deep relationship with God. It can mean: a). To walk by faith (it is impossible to please God without faith). b). Walking in the light of His revelations. C). Walking in agreement with God (Amos 3:3). d). Walking in obedience to God. So intimate was their walk that one day, Enoch was ‘lost’ in God; he went out with God and never returned. He changed address to God’s eternal abode without the agency of death.
Hebrews 11:5 says, “By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, and was not found, because God had taken him…” Enoch’s walk with God protected him from the king of terrors – death. When death came, he did not find Enoch. His walk with God spared him.
You cannot walk with God and be reduced for it. Just as Enoch ‘was taken,’ it will also be said of you: “Sickness came, but it did not find him, for God took him. A car accident came, but she was unharmed, for God took her. Opposition arose in the office, but she was spared, for God took her. Armed robbers came but did not enter their house, for God took their family.” May you experience the tangible blessings of a vibrant walk with God this season.
