There was no hope that Abraham would have children, but Abraham believed God and continued to hope. And that is why he became the father of many nations. As God told him, “You will have many descendants.” Romans 4:18 (ERV)
Romans 4:13-22 (ERV)
There was no hope that Abraham would have children, but he believed God and continued to hope. He didn’t put his hands on his cheeks and lament in self-pity, “Oh how I wish the promises of God would come true for me.” Rather, he strengthened his belief by giving thanks to God. Having faith in God is not mere wishful thinking; it is ‘absolute belief,’ or ‘confident assurance’ in the things He has promised.
Abraham never doubted or staggered at God’s promises; he by no means sought other gods, complained, whined, or considered the hopelessness of his situation. Instead, he anchored his hope in the infallible Word of God, and eventually, he received the promise.
James 1:6 in the Easy to Read version says, “But when you ask God, you must believe. Don’t doubt him.” When you go to God, don’t have an ‘Option B.’ Believe that He will do what you have asked Him to do and don’t doubt or pursue alternatives. Faith in God does not accommodate ‘other options’, it is absolute. It must be God and God alone. As a Christian, your faith walk is very vital because everything depends on it, so you must constantly pay attention to it.
Never let the ‘contrary’ circumstances distract you. Keep your eyes and heart stayed on God’s promises. Your case may not be more hopeless than Abraham’s whom Genesis 18:11 described as ‘very old and well advanced in age.’ So, physically speaking, it was not possible for him to have children at that age. Yet, his faith in God made it happen.
Therefore, in whatever area you want to see the promises of God fulfilled in your life – salvation for a rebellious child, healing of a terminal disease, freedom from indebtedness, peace in your troubled marriage, finances to meet your financial obligations, career breakthrough, etc., choose to imitate Abraham who through his faith and patience inherited the promise of God.
May God honor your faith and grant the petitions of your hearts in Jesus’ name!
– Pray for strength to continue patiently in faith in the infallible Word of God.
– Thank God for His wonderful promises in your life which will come to pass regardless of how hopeless the situation may seem.
