IN PLEASANT PLACES

O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance. Psalm 16:5-6

The picture I see here is God, like a Town Planner, working on the master-plan of a city and using His instruments to draw out ‘lines’ on paper, representing portions of land to be allotted to different people…myself inclusive.

On getting to site to see the portion of land allotted to me by the ‘Town Planner’s’ pen, I realize that my portion of land has enclosed in it, streams of water, orchards, underground solid minerals, crude oil and soil rich for farming. I would then exclaim, ‘The drawn lines fell for me in a pleasant place.’ Divinity guided the lines to ensure that the best came to me.

Psalm 24:1 reveals that, “The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness.” Therefore, He has the authority to allot the earth’s fullness to the inhabitants of the earth. As a believer who has a covenant with God, you must realize that He has prepared and chosen your portion of His inheritance for you to enjoy on earth. Furthermore, the portion of land which God has allotted to you is good and pleasant, just like the land He allotted to His covenant children, Israel. It was filled with milk and honey.

Again, no one can take the portion God has chosen for you, because God is the one who maintains, preserves, and protects it. He won’t allow the wicked to encroach on it, neither will He allow their rod rest on it. Like Matthew Henry rightly puts it, “Who shall unfix me if God hath fixed me.”

However, in order to enjoy your allotted portion, you must firmly trust in God who chooses what comes to you. Your trust in Him is expressed by accepting His choice for your life – in your career, spouse, geographical location, place of worship, connections, friends etc. That is His will for you, and His will is already blessed! God has appointed positions, places, people, and provision before you came on the scene, and as you trust Him and stay in the boundary of His love, you will collide with them, in Jesus name.

+ Declare over your portion that the rod of the wicked will not rest on it, neither will you be removed from it because God preserves and maintains it for you.
