EYES FIXED ON JESUS

“Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.” ~ Luke 4:20

Amidst the culture of hero-worship that permeates today’s society, believers can get distracted and soon turn their attention to false gods. There are great orators, singers, actors, social media influencers, talk show hosts, entertainers, and musicians, many of whom have very many followers. However, a child of God must be careful to have his eyes fixed on Jesus all the time.

What you keep looking at shapes what you become; it affects what you see and how you see. If what your focus is on is not something that can help you, it subtly distracts you from what can help you. Remember Peter on the water? As long as he had his eyes fixed on Jesus, he walked on water, but when fixed on the storm, he lost sight of Jesus and sank. Guard your eyes.

When Jesus read the scroll in the synagogue, He announced His mission and mandate from the scriptures to the worshippers. Afterward, He closed the book and sat down, and they all fixed their eyes on Him. When He had their attention, He said to them, “Today, this scripture is fulfilled.” He brought the scriptures from their historicity into their reality; this only happened when the worshippers fixed their eyes on Jesus. That is when scriptures can come alive.

We will only see the scriptures fulfilled in our lives when our eyes are on Jesus. You cannot expect to see promises fulfilled with your eyes on a man, a negative medical report, the inflation rate, failing stocks, your savings, bodily feeling, or the sad stories of others. “They looked to him, and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed,” Psalm 34:5.

In the church, all eyes must be on Jesus, not the pastor or worship leader. That is how to drink from His Spirit and not just have a religious fix. It signifies expectation and honor for Jesus. He is the central Figure of all prophecies and revelations, and to Him shall the gathering of His people be. Avoid anything or any man that takes your eyes off Jesus in church or anywhere else. As you go into the year, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

PRAYERS:

+ Father, forgive me for times I have kept my eyes on the storms and reports instead of fixing them on Jesus.

+ I receive grace to be disciplined in fixing my eyes on Jesus always and against all odds.

+ I declare that all through 2023, my face will be radiant, and I will not be put to shame.
