“So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”” ~ Judges 6:15
REFERENCE:
God does not have a problem with doing great things through us; the big problem is, ‘Do we believe that He can do great things through us?’ God’s eyes run to and fro the earth, always looking for men through whom He can display His power and do mighty things, but are there men who are praying, watching, and seeking God to do great things through them? God planned to save a nation through Gideon, but guess what? Gideon said, “How can I save Israel?”
Gideon is like many people: satisfied with how life has always been, comfortable with the predictable, averse to venturing into new things, and afraid of the unfamiliar and unknown. Gideon’s community was under the oppression of marauding Midianite outlaws; the Israelites had been reduced to poverty, having been robbed of their annual harvests by the Midianites.
God would not come down to save Israel; He always uses a man to save a man. He decided to use Gideon to redeem his nation and sent an angel to deliver his appointment letter to him, but Gideon would have none of it. God couldn’t have meant that; the angel must have missed the address, and even if he got the address right, he had the wrong man in his family.
Gideon said, “How can I save Israel?” He did not see what God saw in him; his weaknesses absorbed him: lack of pedigree, financial weakness, emotional bruises, and physical disadvantage. What Gideon could have asked himself was, “Didn’t God see all those before He still chose Him?” If God says you can do something, He knows you can do it! Your faith can help you overcome any personal limitations.
Do you think God can use you for great things? Do you see yourself prosperous and blessed, occupying an influential seat, building a great institution, setting up systems that will benefit generations, or rising to the top of your organization? If God calls you to save ‘your Israel,’ never say, “How can I save Israel?” If God calls you to do a work, there is something He has seen in you, and there are even more things He will make available to you to excel in what He has called you to do.
