For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. And no razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb; and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. Judges 13:5

Judges 13:1-14

Wow! What outstanding announcement concerning a person’s destiny! Even before his birth, Samson’s purpose was revealed by God through His Angel to his parents; he was to be a Nazarite – ‘separated’ unto God. This meant that he was going to be uniquely different from those around him; he would stand out and be separate from others. The Angel also added that he would be a deliverer for his people. Also, as one ‘devoted’ to God (Nazirite), he wasn’t supposed to live carelessly; God prescribed some rules to help Samson preserve his anointing and to fulfill his purpose. However, Samson would push the limits; he would dance on the edges of the forbidden. He was impulsive and lived an adventurous life. He was a risk taker who loved the ‘illicit,’ Yes! the things he was to avoid were the things he liked to do. Though physically strong, he was morally weak, he lacked self-control and, in the end, that cost him his eyes, and eventually, his life (Judges 16).

Samson’s father understood that his child was a special child and He asked the Angel who announced his birth, “What should be the boy’s rule for life and the work he must do?” Hear this, ‘Every child is special and comes with a purpose.’ You also were born with a purpose – a great purpose. You were separated to God from your mother’s womb, you were ordained to be God’s hope to a dying world, you were meant to be a deliverer; your parents were excited at your conception and birth, they perceived God had a purpose for your life. But where are you today? Are you pursuing God’s big purpose for your life? Or, are you living your life on the edge, testing the limits and playing with the forbidden?

May I remind you that like Samson, God has a purpose for you. Your life is not just about you and your appetite for pennies, pleasure or play. The deliverance of families is tied to you. You were separated from your mother’s womb for a great assignment, and you have to live conscious of that. Be determined to find and fulfill God’s great purpose for you. However, remember, as someone with a purpose, you must have a rule for living – a pattern of life that would keep you on the right track in order to fulfill your purpose. This may include, the daily practice of seeking God’s face, watching your friendships, being committed to bodily exercise, given to study/reading, being quick to forgive, staying away from sin, etc.

You are too precious to God to live carelessly and thoughtlessly. You are not just an “Unidentified Floating Object” on earth; God is an intentional God, He sent you here on purpose and for a purpose. You matter where it matters most – in God’s agenda. You have been placed in this great city, at this great time, for a great purpose, in order to bless God’s great people. BE WISE!
