THOSE WHO WAIT

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31

Most times, when we pray and see immediate results, we testify and glorify God. However, when we have to wait for results, we become frazzled. Waiting can be perplexing and can push you into discouragement. As believers and even in life, we are always in between where we are and where we want to go. In between prayers and answer, in between work and pay, in between marriage and parenthood, in between singlehood and marriage, in between graduation and a good job, etc.  Thus, waiting is part of life; the in-between seasons in our lives are unavoidable, this being the case, we have to be equipped to master the art of waiting so we don’t live in constant agitation.

The word ‘wait’ in our text is the Greek word ‘Qavah’ – meaning to wait upon, but more importantly, to bind together by twisting. It talks more about the attitude of those who wait on God. They willfully bind themselves to God’s will, confidently expecting His plan to produce the best result. Simply put, it means patiently serving God and doing His will without losing faith or enthusiasm.

To equip yourself to master your waiting period, i.e. to be in charge or in control over that period rather than allow it discourage you, renew your mind with these truths:

–      Waiting time is not the time to complain or look for ungodly alternatives (Job 14:14)

–      Because you have to wait longer to see a certain thing happen in your life doesn’t mean you have done something wrong; it only means there is a RIGHT time appointed for its manifestation (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

–      Delay is not denial (Psalm 40:1-3).

–      Heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of God concerning you will not pass away; it must be come to pass (Matthew 24:35).

Ultimately, the waiting process will train and empower you, as seen in our text. It will give you strength, courage and the ability to soar above the storms of life. Waiting time is never wasted time, so make your waiting period count for something worthwhile; serve God with all fervency and live life to the full. Like Joyce Mayer would always say, “Enjoy where you are on your way to where you are going!”
